Mood: Fall Colors, Cozy Sweaters, Cider Mimosas & Thanksgiving

I’m not sure about anyone else, but the Monday of a shortened week is pretty unique. Everyone seems lighter, people are already on vacation leaving the office/your inbox quieter and—let’s be real—everyone is trying to get as much done as possible because they know motivation decreases by the hour. Queue: Thanksgiving break.

For all my fellow New Yorkers, it’s finally feeling like it should this time of year—sweater and boot weather, scarves, etc. Flashback: remember when it was 75 degrees out, Christmas 2015?! Umm, no. I felt the need to put together a mood board for all the Thanksgiving feels I’ve been having, and I officially can’t wait for Thursday and the kickoff to the holiday season.

DECOR: This year, orange pumpkins just didn’t do it for me so I grabbed a can of bronze spray paint and made some pretty glamorous looking mini-pumpkins to sit next to the white ones seen here. While I had the paint out, I put a coat on some sticks I pulled from the backyard to use for props/decor and prepped a few things for Christmas (stay tuned).

BY THE FIRESIDE: Cozying up. One of my favorite things to do this time of year is to set up next to the fire with a blanket and candles lit and listen to music, watch a movie, or just ditch the desk and work from the couch for a change of scenery. Check out one of my favorite blankets. They’re thin but still cozy, go with any room decor AND when you purchase one, you’re giving back. Side note, these are a great gift if you’re in need of an idea for that hard-to-buy family member/friend. Add this candle from Bath & Body Works and you have perfection. I’ve been busy lately so I haven’t picked up a book in a hot second, but a few on my to-read short list are Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Here’s my Spotify playlist that keeps me going throughout the day.

FALL STYLE: I wish I wore hats more because I have some beautiful ones that don’t get nearly enough use. If you’re into them and haven’t already, check out Goorin Bros. My sister introduced me to them and they have great hats for any season/any style. It’s sweater season, too. I love this one from Nordstrom and a fall/winter must-have/go-to of mine is this zip-up from Lululemon.

FOOD & DRINKS: A new obsession as of late has been cider mimosas. Ditch the OJ and say hello to fresh apple cider. Pair that with either La Marca or Cupcake prosecco and you have yourself a delicious fall cocktail. Since it’s red wine season, here are a few labels to look out for if you like dry, jammy reds:

Route Stock 29 | Flegenheimer Bros Reserve Red | (go to) Mark West *Black

As for food, bring this to your next brunch. I subbed out the gruyere for Trader Joe’s Shaved Parmesan, Romano & Asiago Blend and added some ground sausage to make it more appealing for the guys. Spoiler, they liked it! Friendsgiving or early holiday party? Bring this ridiculously delicious appetizer. If you’re a blue cheese lover like I am, sub out the almonds for blue cheese. It’s even better. And the reduction dip is a non-negotiable ingredient for these guys. YUM. Here’s a great dinner dish too because who doesn’t love pasta. Sub out the mild sausage with hot sausage if you like things with a kick and Orecchiette pasta makes everything better.

I hope you’re just as excited for Thanksgiving and the ‘official’ holiday season (does it still bother people that Christmas decor is going up earlier and earlier?) as I am. Bring on the food, cocktails, family gatherings, friend get-togethers and everything else that this wonderful time of year has to offer.

Cheers.
